Albert Merz, born in 1942 in Unterägeri, Switzerland, studied at the Berlin University of the Arts. A working grant from the city of Berlin took him to Rome in 1986 to work at the Swiss Institute. In 1997, he spent a year working in London, supported by the Zug-based Landis Gyr Cultural Foundation. Albert Merz lives and works in Berlin.
