Tutto passa; 'everything passes'
Tutto passa (Italian) “everything passes”; a way of life that sees change not as loss, but as value. With this series, Berlin-based abstract painter Ivan Gette captures the here and now, that single moment shaped by countless influences and never repeated. Gette found the impulse for this during a stay in Pietrasanta, where he consciously engaged with the philosophy of Tutto Passa and let it inspire him. Our lives are made up of exactly such moments, fragments that stay with us and shape who we are. Gette captures them in colour, not as depictions but as memories that live on within us.
Constantly moving, Gette's practice is driven by travel, encounters and raw emotion. Each canvas is painted intuitively, unfiltered, in the moment. Nothing here is explained. Gette deliberately leaves his paintings to the viewer, allowing for an honest, unfiltered encounter between the work and the person looking at it. A work only becomes complete through the person who owns it: collectors are invited to give each painting its own title, a privilege that inseparably binds the work to its owner.
Tutto Passa is therefore more than an exhibition. Time is the most valuable thing we possess, and the one thing that cannot be bought. What remains is the memory of the moment, and this is exactly what Tutto Passa offers: the chance to preserve and honour such moments, and to have a piece of that at home on the wall.
The exhibition is presented in collaboration with AK Galerie, under the direction of gallerist Anna Kimmerle, and will be shown as part of Berlin Art Week in September. A double presentation is planned: a solo show at AK Galerie at Gendarmenmarkt in Berlin, as well as a presentation at Positions Art Fair in Berlin as part of Art Week.
